    New President Pays Tribute at Mausoleums of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia

    Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid his respects at the mausoleums of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia before taking the oath of office as president.

    He paid tribute at their mausoleums in Zia Udyan, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, around 2 PM on Friday (August 21).

    After paying respects at the mausoleums, Mirza Fakhrul participated in prayers and supplications there. He is scheduled to be sworn in as the 23rd President of the country at Bangabhaban at 7:30 PM on the same day.

    Earlier, the presidential election voting took place yesterday from 2 PM to 5 PM in the Parliament Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. In this election, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP candidate, was contested by Oli Ahmad, representing the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami.

    A total of 349 voters, including general and reserved Members of Parliament, participated in this election, with 9 members being absent. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president, securing 255 votes, while Oli Ahmad received 88 votes.

    Later that day, after the vote counting, the election results for the presidential election were announced in the Parliament Room by the election officer and Chief Election Commissioner A. M. M. Nasir Uddin. The gazette notification of these results was published in the evening.
